After breaking for lunch I took a short walk alone along the beachfront in San Felipe on a small investigative look for some possible cut away moments. These moments really became an everyday search during the making of the film. Stumbling across layers of texture made up of whatever presented itself. These little searches set the tone for me for ways to shoot and represent the idea of ‘place’ in the film.

A local group of Mariachi’s drinking beer and playing together on the street in San Felipe. It was another image shot whilst looking for establishing moments for the film.

This image was taken whilst shooting our establishing landscapes of Baja from the Helicopter. That day really cemented my understanding of how vast and diverse the terrain was in Baja and how challenging the upcoming race was going to be for the Team.

The Local Corner Store in Mojave Desert, not far from where we tested the race bike prior to the start. The environment of the desert made it an ideal testing ground to match the Mexican landscape the team would race in.

Dusk in the Mojave Desert. We shot a majority of our moto action in the afternoon light which made for some amazing painterly skies. Shooting at this time of day really showed a mysterious side to the Landscape. This helped with a level of foreshadowing during the film, the Mexican Desert living up to its name as one of the greatest challenges whilst racing.

Whilst constantly on the road and on the move, we would come across so many moments to capture Mexico’s unique landscape. It became a very inspiring visual element and character in the film.

This portrait was taken whilst making a morning coffee before a day of filming in the Mojave Desert. Forest’s Father Mike would be up every morning, keeping the fire going and making his morning brew. We really became a part of the rider’s journey after a few weeks out in the desert testing the bikes, and living all together in the small rooms Mike had built himself.
